Professional. Mobile. Trusted.
An AdBlue warning light means one of two completely different things, and the dash rarely makes it obvious which. Either the tank is genuinely low — in which case a sealed container of ISO 22241 fluid clears it — or the ECU has logged an SCR fault, and then no amount of AdBlue will make it go away. The second case comes with a countdown: keep driving and the vehicle eventually refuses to restart. We attend with dealer-grade equipment, read live NOx and dosing data on your vehicle, and tell you which of the two you have before anything is bought or replaced.
- Tells low-level messages apart from genuine SCR faults on the first visit
- Live upstream/downstream NOx comparison through a real drive cycle
- Dosing pressure, delivery and injector spray testing
- Tank module, level sender and heater-circuit checks
- AdBlue fluid quality and contamination testing
- No-restart countdown assessed before it expires
- Mobile diagnostic visit from £150 — parts and repair quoted separately once diagnosed
- Counter reset only as part of a completed repair, never on its own
What your exact message means
Find the wording closest to what your dash is showing. Every manufacturer phrases it differently, but they fall into the same handful of situations.
"AdBlue level low — refill"
Amber, usually with a mileage figure. This one really is just fluid: top up with a sealed 10-litre container of ISO 22241 AdBlue and the message clears within a drive cycle or two. If it does not clear, the level sender or tank module is reading wrong — that is a fault, not fluid.
"AdBlue warning — engine will not restart in X miles"
The countdown has armed. Somewhere between a few hundred and two thousand miles remain depending on manufacturer. Once it reaches zero the engine will not start again and the vehicle needs recovering, so this is the point to book rather than wait.
"Emissions fault — see dealer" / "Exhaust fluid system fault"
A genuine SCR fault has been logged. Topping up will not clear it. The ECU has decided NOx reduction is out of specification — sensor, dosing pump, injector, tank module, wiring or software.
AdBlue light on with a full tank
The single most common thing customers describe. The fluid was never the problem; the system either cannot deliver it or cannot measure the result. Live data on the vehicle tells us which within the first visit.
Light returns a few days after a top-up
Classic symptom of a dosing-deviation or NOx-range fault. The counter re-arms on the next full drive cycle because nothing was actually repaired.
Light appears only in cold weather
Points at the tank heater circuit or a crystallised injector rather than the SCR catalyst. Very often a wiring or heater fix, not an expensive module.
If it is a fault, this is usually why
NOx sensor out of range
The most frequent cause on cars and vans alike. One drifting reading and the whole system is declared faulty.
NOx sensor faultsDosing pump or pressure fault
Fluid in the tank but not reaching the catalyst at the right pressure — blocked filters, restricted lines, failed pumps.
AdBlue pump faultsBlocked or crystallised injector
White urea deposits at the injector and dosing-deviation codes that return after every top-up.
AdBlue injector faultsTank module, sender or heater
Tank reads empty when full, the level never moves, or the warning only appears below freezing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the AdBlue warning light mean?+
It means one of two things. An amber low-level message with a mileage figure is genuinely asking for fluid. Any message mentioning a fault, emissions, SCR, or a no-restart countdown means the ECU has logged a problem with the AdBlue system itself — and no amount of fluid will clear that one.
Can I keep driving with the AdBlue warning light on?+
Usually yes, for the miles shown in the countdown, but the car will progressively limit power and then refuse to restart once it reaches zero. Driving on it does not damage the engine; leaving it until the countdown expires does turn a mobile repair into a recovery job.
My AdBlue light is on but the tank is full — why?+
Because the warning is not about the level. The system is telling you it cannot deliver or verify AdBlue dosing. The usual culprits are a NOx sensor reading out of range, a dosing pump or pressure fault, a crystallised injector, or a tank module that reports the wrong level. Live data on the vehicle identifies which one.
How do I reset the AdBlue warning light?+
Only by fixing what triggered it, then clearing the counter with the correct dealer-level procedure. We do not reset counters on their own — they re-arm within a drive cycle or two and the customer pays twice.
How much does it cost to diagnose an AdBlue warning light?+
The mobile diagnostic visit starts at the £150 minimum service charge. That covers stored, pending and permanent codes, live NOx and dosing data, pressure and delivery testing, fluid quality, wiring and heater circuits, plus a written finding. Parts and repair labour are quoted separately once we know what has failed, and nothing is ordered until you approve the price.
Which AdBlue fluid should I use?+
Any sealed ISO 22241 (DEF) fluid from a reputable supplier. Avoid loose or decanted containers — contamination and crystallisation are a real cause of injector and pump failure, and that repair costs far more than the fluid saved.
Do you delete the AdBlue system instead?+
Not on road-going vehicles. Our AdBlue work is repair and diagnostics so the car or van stays MOT-compliant and road-legal.
Do you come to me?+
