Modern car batteries last 4–6 years on average UK driving. Short-trip city use, stop/start systems and the rise of always-on cabin electronics have all shortened battery life over the last decade.
Why short trips kill batteries
Starting the engine uses a huge chunk of stored charge. A 5-minute trip doesn't give the alternator time to replace it. Repeated short trips = chronic undercharge = sulphation = early death.
AGM vs flooded
AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries are required on most stop/start cars. Fitting a standard flooded battery to an AGM car causes early failure and stop/start fault codes.
CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)
Always match or exceed the OEM CCA rating. Undersized batteries struggle in winter and age faster.
Battery registration
Modern BMW, VAG, Mercedes and Ford require battery coding via OBD when fitting a new battery. Without it, the alternator never charges the new battery fully — and it dies in 18 months.
Mobile battery service
We carry premium AGM and EFB batteries on the van, fit and code at your driveway, and recycle the old one for free.
