Professional. Mobile. Trusted.
Volkswagen Group immobilisers changed significantly with the MQB platform. Component protection pairs the key, instrument cluster and engine ECU together, so a key can no longer simply be coded through the diagnostic port the way it could on older VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT models. That is why a lot of general locksmiths turn these jobs down — and why the ones who accept them without checking the configuration first often cannot finish. We verify your car's actual immobiliser variant against the registration and VIN before we book, so you know whether we can do the job before anyone travels.

- Spare keys from £150 · all keys lost from £180
VAG immobiliser generations, explained honestly
Model year alone does not tell you which system a car has. Build date, cluster part number and software level all matter — which is why we check the vehicle rather than assume.
Pre-MQB (immobiliser 4, roughly 2004–2013)
Golf Mk5/Mk6, Passat B6/B7, Audi A3 8P, Octavia Mk2, Leon Mk2. Blade and flip keys with a transponder in the head. Spare keys and all-keys-lost are both routine OBD or dash-read jobs on these platforms.
MQB (immobiliser 5, roughly 2013 onwards)
Golf Mk7, Passat B8, Tiguan Mk2, Audi A3 8V, Octavia Mk3, Superb Mk3, Leon Mk3. Component protection ties the immobiliser to the cluster and engine ECU, so keys cannot simply be coded over OBD the way older VAG cars could — the data has to be read from the correct module with the right equipment.
MQB48 (later MQB, immobiliser with ID48A/NEC generation)
The later variant found across the newer end of the MQB range, including newer Golf, Octavia, Superb, Leon, Cupra and A3 models. Requires a different read procedure again. Whether an individual car is supported depends on its exact build date, cluster part number and software level.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is MQB and why does it matter for car keys?+
MQB is the Volkswagen Group platform used across VW, Audi, Skoda, SEAT and Cupra from roughly 2013 onwards. Its immobiliser uses component protection — the key, cluster and engine ECU are cryptographically paired. That means a key cannot just be coded over the diagnostic port like an older VAG car; the immobiliser data has to be read correctly first, with equipment that supports that specific generation.
What is MQB48 and is my car one?+
MQB48 refers to the later MQB immobiliser generation using the newer transponder and cluster hardware. Whether a particular car is MQB, MQB48 or something else depends on build date, cluster part number and software level rather than the model year alone. Send us the registration and we will check the actual configuration before quoting or booking — we do not guess.
Can you do all keys lost on a VW Golf Mk7 or Audi A3 8V?+
On many MQB cars, yes. Support depends on the exact cluster and immobiliser variant fitted to your car, so we verify it against the registration and VIN before we commit. If your specific configuration is not supported by our equipment we will tell you straight away rather than attend, fail and charge you for the visit.
Do you do Golf Mk8, ID.3/ID.4 and the newest models?+
Support on the very newest VAG models is limited and varies by build. We check each vehicle individually against the registration and confirm honestly whether we can carry out the work. Where a car genuinely requires main-dealer intervention, we will say so — we never advertise a procedure we cannot perform.
Can you supply a spare key without the original?+
Yes for all-keys-lost work on supported platforms — that is a different and longer procedure than adding a spare to an existing working key, and it is priced accordingly. Adding a spare when you still have a working key is quicker and cheaper, so if you are down to one key it is worth doing now rather than after you lose it.
How much does VAG / MQB key programming cost?+
Spare keys start from £150 and all-keys-lost from £180. Final price depends on the platform, key type and whether the immobiliser data has to be read from the cluster. You get a fixed quote against your registration before we attend — no separate call-out fee on top.
Do you come to the vehicle?+
Yes, we are fully mobile. We attend homes, workplaces, car parks and roadside across Staines, Egham, Ashford, Sunbury, Chertsey, Weybridge, Windsor, Slough, Heathrow, Hounslow, Feltham, Twickenham, Uxbridge, Hayes and West London. Fast mobile response — ETA depends on technician availability, traffic and your location.
Will programming a new key erase my existing keys?+
On some VAG procedures all keys have to be re-learned together, which means any key not present at the time stops working. We always tell you before starting and ask you to bring every key you still have — that way nothing is lost unexpectedly.
What do you need from me before booking?+
Registration, postcode, whether you have a working key, and photos of the existing key if you have one. Proof of ownership (V5C or equivalent plus photo ID) is required on every job before we program a key — no exceptions.
Why not just go to the main dealer?+
For supported platforms we are usually faster and cheaper, we come to the vehicle, and you are not paying for recovery to a dealership. Where a car genuinely needs the dealer, we tell you rather than sell you a visit that cannot succeed.
