A replacement engine ECU rarely works straight out of the box. It has to carry your car's software, coding and immobiliser information, or the engine won't start. Using professional ECU programming equipment, we clone the data from your original unit onto a compatible replacement, or code and synchronise the replacement to your car where that's the right approach. Not every ECU can be cloned — we check compatibility and tell you before any work.

We confirm the replacement ECU's part number and hardware version suit your car before anything is written.
Where the original ECU can be read, we copy its software, coding and immobiliser data.
The data is written to the replacement, or the replacement is coded and synchronised to your immobiliser where cloning isn't possible.
We check the car starts, clear fault codes and road-test before we leave.

What is ECU cloning?+
Cloning copies the data from your original ECU — software, coding and immobiliser information — onto a compatible replacement unit, so the replacement behaves like the original and the car recognises it.
Why won't a second-hand ECU just plug in and work?+
Most modern ECUs are tied to the car's immobiliser and other modules. A used ECU from another car usually won't start your engine until it is matched to your car by cloning, coding or immobiliser synchronisation.
Can every ECU be cloned?+
No. It depends on the ECU type, whether the original can still be read, and whether the replacement is a compatible part number and hardware version. We check compatibility first and tell you before any work if cloning isn't possible.
What if my original ECU is completely dead?+
If the original can't be read at all, cloning may not be possible. In some cases a replacement can still be coded and synchronised to the car's immobiliser instead. We'll explain the options after checking.
How much does ECU cloning cost?+
It's quoted per vehicle and ECU because the work varies. Our £150 minimum service charge applies, and you get a fixed quote before we start.
