Professional. Mobile. Trusted.
Most 'broken' car keys don't need replacing — they need repairing. A cracked smart-key case, worn-out microswitches under the rubber buttons, a snapped blade, a dead remote that won't transmit, or a fob whose chip has come loose from constant pocket-knocking — every one of these can be rebuilt for a fraction of the cost of a brand new key. StageMyCar's mobile auto locksmiths carry replacement shells, blade keys, transponder chips and microswitches for every common smart key, remote fob and flip-key sold in the UK and Europe. The original transponder chip and electronics are transferred into the new shell, the new blade is cut to your VIN, and everything is reassembled, sealed and tested on your driveway — typically in 30-60 minutes. The car treats it as the same key it always knew, so no reprogramming, no immobiliser pairing, and no main-dealer trip. Repairs cost £35-£120 depending on the fault, versus £180-£480 for a brand new programmed key. We're typically with you the same day across West London, Heathrow, Slough, Maidenhead and Reading.

What we repair
• Cracked or split smart-key shells (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, VW, Range Rover, Ford, Vauxhall) • Worn rubber buttons that no longer click or transmit • Microswitches that have failed from years of pocket use • Snapped key blades (cut a new blade from VIN, fit to your existing fob) • Flip-keys that won't extend or retract • Loose transponder chips that have come unsoldered • Dead remotes after water damage (where the board is salvageable) • Worn key bows that have cracked through repeated drops
Repair vs replace — when each makes sense
Repair is the right call when the transponder chip and circuit board still work — which is true for ~80% of 'broken' keys. We transfer the working electronics into a new shell or replace the failed mechanical part. The car treats it as the same key it's always known, so no main-dealer programming visit and no immobiliser pairing. Replacement is only needed when the chip itself is dead (water damage, severe physical damage to the board) or the original key is genuinely lost. In those cases we cut and program a brand new key from VIN — see our Car Key Replacement service.
Will my car know it's been repaired?
No. The car authenticates the transponder chip inside the fob, not the shell around it. When we transfer your original chip into a new case, the car's immobiliser sees exactly the same key it has always known. No relearning, no dealer visit, no programming fee.

What “No Damage Entry” Actually Means.
A lot of locksmiths advertise “damage-free” entry then turn up with a slim jim that bends the door frame, or an air wedge that creaks the seal. Our engineers are trained and equipped with dealer-level tooling using modern, vehicle-specific tooling — the same tools used by AA, RAC and main-dealer mobile services.
- Decoders & pick guns matched to your lock cylinder — no levering
- Protected air wedges with felt edges — no paint scratches or seal creasing
- Long-reach manipulation tools — no glass contact, ever
- Specialist Tibbe, HU66, HU100, HU101 picks for European vehicles
- All work covered by £2,000,000 public liability insurance
What we will never do:
- ✗ Break a window to gain entry on a routine lockout
- ✗ Drill a working lock cylinder
- ✗ Use a slim jim on cars built after ~2005 (risk to airbag wiring)
- ✗ Charge a hidden “arrival” or “assessment” fee on top
- ✗ Start work before agreeing a fixed price with you

Car Key Repair — FAQ
How much does it cost to repair a car key fob?+
Most repairs are £35-£65. A cracked shell with chip transfer is £35; worn microswitches are £45; a snapped blade with new cut is £65. A full rebuild (new shell, new blade, new battery, original chip) is £120. All fixed-price quoted before we attend.
Can you repair a key fob that's been water damaged?+
Sometimes. If the board has corroded badly the chip may be unrecoverable — at which point a full replacement is the right call. We can usually tell within 5 minutes whether a repair is viable and quote either way on the spot.
How long does a car key repair take?+
Typically 30-60 minutes on your driveway. Snapped blade replacements take a little longer because we cut the new blade from your VIN on site.
Will my insurance pay for car key repair?+
Most policies don't cover wear-and-tear, but some 'keycare' add-ons do. Worth a quick check — we can provide a written receipt and diagnostic note for any claim.
Can you fix a key that won't open the boot?+
Yes — that's usually a single failed microswitch or a worn track on the button rubber. £45 fixed and verified before we leave.
Do you repair keys for all makes?+
Yes — BMW, Audi, Mercedes, VW, Ford, Vauxhall, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, Range Rover, Jaguar, Mini, Hyundai, Kia, Seat, Skoda, Volvo, Fiat. If we don't have your exact shell in stock we order it for same/next day.
