Stage 2 isn't 'Stage 1 plus extra fuel' — it's a hardware change with a matching software file. Skipping the hardware destroys engines.
1 — High-flow intake
Stock airboxes restrict at Stage 2 airflow. A panel filter is not enough — you need a full intake on most platforms.
2 — Downpipe / sports cat
The single biggest restriction on most turbo cars. A 3" downpipe unlocks 15–25bhp on its own and is mandatory for Stage 2.
3 — Intercooler upgrade
Stock intercoolers heat-soak under sustained boost. Front-mount or stepped uprated coolers are needed on most platforms.
4 — Fuel pump
On direct-injection turbo petrols (TFSI, EcoBoost), the HPFP becomes the limiting factor at Stage 2. Upgraded HPFP internals are common.
5 — Clutch (manual)
Stock clutches slip above ~400Nm. Sachs SRE or Helix uprated clutches handle Stage 2 torque without daily-drivability sacrifice.
