Stage 1 vs Stage 2 Remap — Which Is Right For Your Car?

Power gains, hardware requirements and when each stage actually makes sense for your engine.

A Stage 1 remap is the safest, most popular performance upgrade. It's written for a completely standard vehicle with no other hardware changes — just a custom calibration flashed onto the factory ECU. Typical gains on a modern turbo engine are 25–35% more power and up to 40% more torque, all kept within manufacturer engine, gearbox and thermal limits.

When Stage 1 is the right choice

If your car is stock and you want a smoother daily drive with a noticeable kick through the mid-range, Stage 1 is the answer. You'll feel a more responsive throttle, stronger overtaking and better part-throttle drivability — without any change to MPG on a sensible right foot.

When Stage 2 makes sense

Stage 2 is for cars that already have supporting modifications — typically a high-flow intake, sports cat or downpipe, and often an upgraded intercooler. Without those, a Stage 2 file simply can't be run safely; the engine and turbo can't move enough air or shed enough heat to make the extra power reliably.

What we do on every Stage map

Every StageMyCar map is custom written for your exact VIN, gearbox and fuel grade — not a generic 'one-size' file. We log AFR, boost, timing and EGT before and after, and you get a full report so you can see exactly what changed.

Is it warranty-safe?

A fully reversible map can be reflashed back to stock before any dealer visit — leaving no trace in the ECU. We provide a free reflash if you ever need to roll back for warranty work.
