Professional. Mobile. Trusted.
An ABS warning light is one of the most common modern-car dash faults — and one of the most often misdiagnosed. The light shares logic with ESP, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist and (on most modern platforms) the electronic parking brake, so a single failed wheel-speed sensor can light up four warnings at once. Our mobile diagnostic vans carry dealer-grade scan tools for every UK platform — BMW ISTA-equivalent, VAG ODIS-equivalent, Mercedes XENTRY-equivalent, JLR SDD, Ford IDS, Toyota Techstream — so we can read the live wheel-speed data, the pump-motor current draw, the steering-angle sensor offset and the yaw-rate sensor output in one visit. Most ABS faults are diagnosed within 45 minutes; the majority are fixed and cleared on the same visit.
- Fixed-price ABS diagnostic from £79 — no call-out fee, no hourly creep
- Wheel-speed sensor read-and-replace on site
- ABS pump motor / hydraulic control unit (HCU) testing
- ESP, ESC, traction-control & hill-start coding
- Steering-angle sensor & yaw-rate sensor calibration after repair
- Dealer-grade live data on every UK platform
- Most jobs cleared & coded in 45–90 minutes on the driveway
- 12-month warranty on parts & labour
Warning Lights & Symptoms We See Most.
These are the symptoms our customers describe when they book abs fault diagnosis. If yours matches one of these, we can usually clear the fault and code/calibrate the affected module on site — no garage drop-off, no waiting list.
Common Causes & What We Check.
Most abs fault diagnosis jobs trace back to one of a handful of root causes. We work through them in order, using a dealer-grade OEM-spec scan tool, a multimeter and a road-test — not a code-reader and a guess.
Front sensors fail more often than rears due to road salt and brake-dust corrosion. A single failed sensor disables the entire ABS, ESP and traction-control system. We read live wheel-speed data on the scan tool, identify the bad sensor in under 10 minutes and fit a new one on site.
The magnetic ring on the hub/driveshaft can crack or shed teeth, giving the sensor a missing or corrupted signal. Common on Ford Focus Mk2/3, Vauxhall Astra J, BMW 1-series and Mini R56. Often misdiagnosed as a sensor fault.
The pigtail loom from the sensor to the body harness is mounted low and exposed. Salt corrosion or rodent damage gives intermittent faults that come and go with road bumps.
Internal pump-motor brushes wear out (very common on Ford Galaxy Mk3, Audi A4 B7, VW Touareg 7L). We test pump-motor current draw and HCU response, then quote a refurb or replacement with full bleed and coding.
Air pockets after a brake job will trigger an ABS fault. We bleed using the scan-tool-controlled pump-bleed routine — the only way to purge air from the HCU on modern cars.
After a wheel alignment, suspension repair or sub-frame removal the steering-angle sensor needs re-zeroing. The ABS module rejects bad data and disables ESP. We re-calibrate via OBD in under 5 minutes.
Our On-Site Diagnostic Process.
Every abs fault diagnosis job follows the same six-step process. No skipping steps to save time, no upselling a part you don't need.
- 1Full scan-tool fault read
We pull stored and pending DTCs from every module — not just the ABS module — because ESP, EPB, steering-angle and engine modules often log related faults.
- 2Live data analysis
Wheel-speed sensors are checked at idle and during a short road test to confirm the dropout vs. an intermittent connector.
- 3Multimeter check at the sensor connector
Voltage, ground and signal verified at the sensor pigtail to rule out a wiring fault before any part is condemned.
- 4Repair on site
Sensor swap, reluctor ring inspection, connector repair or HCU bleed performed on the driveway — most parts carried on the van for popular makes.
- 5Calibration & coding
Steering-angle sensor zero-point reset, yaw-rate calibration and ABS adaptation values written back with the dealer-grade tool.
- 6Road-test & verification
Short road test to confirm the warning light stays off, ABS engages correctly under controlled braking, and no fault codes return.

ABS Fault Diagnosis — Questions
How much does ABS fault diagnosis cost?+
Our mobile ABS diagnostic is £79 fixed — that includes the on-site visit, the dealer-grade scan, live wheel-speed data analysis and a written fault report. Repair work (sensor, reluctor ring, pump bleed) is quoted separately before any work starts.
Can I keep driving with the ABS light on?+
Your normal brakes still work, but ABS, ESP, traction control and (on many modern cars) hill-start assist and the electronic parking brake will be disabled. In wet, icy or hard-braking conditions the car will not behave the way you expect. We recommend a same-day diagnostic — most jobs are fixed in one visit.
Why does my ABS light come on intermittently?+
Intermittent ABS faults are almost always one of three things: a corroded wheel-speed sensor pigtail, a cracked reluctor ring giving a missing pulse on bumps, or a loose connector at the wheel hub. All three are diagnosed by the live-data trace during a short road test.
Do I need to go to a main dealer for ABS module coding?+
No. Our scan tools cover dealer-level coding and adaptation for every UK platform — BMW ISTA-equivalent, VAG ODIS-equivalent, Mercedes XENTRY-equivalent, JLR SDD, Ford IDS, Toyota Techstream. We can program a replacement ABS module and re-write all adaptation values without a dealer visit.
Can you fix an ABS pump on site or does it need a workshop?+
We bleed, refurb and replace ABS pump motors on the driveway. The job takes 60–120 minutes including the scan-tool pump-bleed routine that's required after any HCU work — there's no need to take the car off the road.
What is steering-angle sensor calibration and do I need it?+
The SAS tells the ABS module where straight-ahead is. After any wheel alignment, sub-frame removal, suspension repair or sometimes a battery disconnect, the SAS needs re-zeroing via OBD or the ESP light stays on. We do this in 5 minutes for £49 as a standalone job.
Do you give a warranty on ABS work?+
Yes — 12 months parts and labour on every ABS sensor, reluctor ring, connector repair and module coding job. Fully insured, dealer-grade equipment, 5-star Google reviews.
Which postcodes do you cover for mobile ABS diagnostics?+
All of London, the M25 corridor, the M3/M4/M40 commuter belt — Berkshire, Surrey, Middlesex, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Hampshire, Essex and Kent. Same-day and next-day appointments available 7 days a week.
Why Drivers Choose StageMyCar For ABS Fault Diagnosis
Most abs fault diagnosis faults aren't a "swap the part and hope" job — they're a coding, calibration and adaptation problem. A high-street garage with a generic OBD reader can pull a fault code but often can't write the calibration data back to the module after a repair, which is why so many customers tell us the warning light came back the next morning. Our vans carry dealer-grade tooling for every UK-market platform, so the calibration that clears the light isn't a separate dealer trip — it's part of the same fixed-price visit.
We attend driveways, workplaces, supermarket car parks, airport long-stays and roadside breakdowns across London, the M25 corridor and the M3/M4/M40 commuter belt. Fixed price quoted on WhatsApp before we attend; cards, cash, bank transfer and Payment Assist (3–4 monthly instalments on jobs over £250) all accepted; 12-month warranty on every job.
